New Zealand Ocean Swim Series - King of the Bays

Sat Apr 2nd 2016
Auckland, Takapuna Beach, Takapuna

Regardless whether you come in first or second to last (maybe even if you come flat last too), you’ll feel like royalty as you gracefully glide up the beach and under the finish line at the King of the Bays. Why? Because, you have conquered the noble challenge of a classic open water swim in the stately surrounds of Takapuna Beach. With Rangitoto watching your every stroke, along with the large safety contingent of life guards from Surf Life Saving New Zealand, the stunning scene leaves you poised to see off summer in style. Consisting of five different swim events, the King of the Bays provides an ocean swim event for all ages and abilities: ‘I’m Going Long’ - a 2.8km swim along the coast from Milford Beach to Takapuna Beach. ‘Step It Up’ - a 1000m swim off Takapuna Beach, an achievable distance for individuals with swimming experience. ‘Give It A Go’ – a 300m swim off Takapuna Beach, a great introduction to open water swimming. 'OceanKids' - a swim for children aged between 7-13 years old, consisting of a 200m shallow water swim along the Takapuna Beach shore line, lined with Surf Life Saving NZ guards. 'Tag Team Relay' - a relay swim where teams of 3 swimmers each take their turn to swim a 300m course before tagging out their next team member to swim.
