O'Connell Street Bistro is the holder of several international culinary awards, from the "Best Wine Experience" in 2007 and 2008, to the "Best Smart Dining Restaurant In Auckland" in 2011. There are just 12 tables in the public dining room, and a bright interior with original art on the walls from local artists (all for sale).
Service is attentive and the sommelier, in particular, really knows his stuff. The menu is full of mouth-watering dishes using locally-sourced produce to create classics such as Scampi Linguine and Roasted Duck Confit, alongside more inventive creations like Enoki Rissoto and Pork & Hare Terrine.
All plates are stunning to look at - this is real fine dining - but the ambience is always relaxed and unpretentious. There's an adjacent private dining room that can hold 26 people, perfect for business dinners to impress important clients, or family occasions, and offering the same first-class menu and service.
Having won several wine awards, it's no surprise to find a fantastic selection of vintages on offer, chosen with real passion, from New Zealand boutique vineyards, to exclusive Alsace wineries. As of Autumn 2011, O'Connell Street Bistro is the only restaurant in Auckland to hold an "Award of Excellence" from the prestigious New York magazine "Wine Spectator".
