For carnivores, steakhouses in Auckland are a real treat. Generous on size, and great on service, this city is big on, well, being big. Giant Brazilian, American and good, old fashioned Kiwi platters, will set you up for the night.
Auckland steakhouses tend to centre around the CBD and Viaduct Harbour. Quay Street has a number of bustling grill restaurants, as does Wellesley Street, serving everything from gourmet burgers to 30oz monster fillets. Elliot Stables is somewhere to go for something a little more refined, in a romantic atmosphere, while most good hotels will also have decent steak options on their international menus. A bit further out, many gastropubs in the trendy suburbs of Parnell, Ponsonby and Mt Eden will offer chic, fancy-named steaks and platters. Takapuna, on the North Shore has a couple of great grill houses, while Parnell is the place to head if you want full-on South American meat feasts, with several Argentinian and Brazilian steakhouses.
